India & Russia decided to enhance defence cooperation not only in procurement but also explored the possibility of "additional" production of Russian military equipment in India. This comes despite US pressure against defence procurement from Moscow.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was on a working visit to New Delhi where he held bilateral talks with his counterpart External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Both sides spoke at length on regional issues, especially on Afghanistan. India emphasised that the “peace process” must be based on principles that all stakeholders subscriber to and reiterated that the process has to be Afghan led, whereas Russia highlighted the key role of the Taliban in bringing normalcy to the war torn country.
