Lockdown in Bihar till May 15, announces CM Nitish Kumar amid Covid surge


The Bihar government headed by CM Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced a lockdown in the state till May 15 over the deteriorating Covid-19 situation.


Nitish Kumar said in a tweet on Tuesday that the decision to impose a lockdown in Bihar was taken after consultations with officers and concerned authorities and a detailed guideline over the restrictions will be announced soon.


Bihar's Covid-19 case tally has crossed the 5-lakh mark while the state now has over 1 lakh active cases. On Monday, Bihar reported 11,407 fresh Covid-19 cases along with 82 deaths.


The Bihar govt on Monday decided to make available Rs two crore each from the development money of the state legislators to corona eradication fund constituted in the health department to further enhance the medicare facility to fight Covid pandemic more effectively.
