Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta passed away today at the age of 77. As per reports, he was ill and was on dialysis for a while. He had also been suffering from kidney disease. 5 of his films have won the National Film Awards while he's won Best Director for two.

Legendary Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta died at the age of 77 this morning, June 10, of age-related complications.

HOW?

As per reports, Buddhadeb Dasgupta was ill and was on dialysis for a while. He had also been suffering from kidney disease. He died in his sleep at 8 in the morning.

WHO?

Five of Buddhadeb Dasgupta's films have won the National Film Awards for Best Feature Film, while he's won Best Director for two. He was honoured with the lifetime achievement award at the Spain International Film Festival in Madrid on 27 May 2008. He was best-known for Bagh Bahadur, Lal Darja, Kaalpurush, and the Mithun Chakraborty-starrer Tahader Katha.
