Bill Gates & Samsung have completed a project to develop a waterless toilet prototype for home use that burns solid waste to ashes. The system also permits complete recycling of the treated water.

As per WHO & UNICEF, around 3.6 billion people are compelled to use substandard sanitation facilities. Therefore, as a result, 5 Lakh children under the age of five pass away every year from diarrheal infections.

Bill Gates-Funded Initiative Builds Toilet That Turns Poop Into Ash

WHAT?

Bill Gates and Samsung have completed a project to develop a waterless toilet prototype for home use that burns solid waste to ashes.

WHO?

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's "Reinvent the Toilet Challenge," which began in 2011 and solicited designs for toilets that safely and effectively handle human waste, served as the inspiration for the creation of the toilet.

HOW?

The company noted that heat-treatment and bioprocessing technologies have been installed in the product to remove pathogens from human waste and make the released effluent, as well as solids, safe for the environment. Its system would enable the treated water to be fully recycled. Solid waste would be dehydrated, dried, and combusted into ashes, while, on the liquid side, a biological purification process would treat the waste.
