8 Trapped As Building Collapses In Lucknow, Had Cracks After Earthquake

WHAT?

A multi-story residential building collapsed on Tuesday in UP's Lucknow, burying many people. So far 3 dead bodies have been found. 

HOW?

It is not clear what triggered the collapse of the building. However, several people suspect that a 5.8 magnitude earthquake which hit Nepal and impacted parts of northern India and Lucknow, might have caused the collapse. Apparently some construction work in basement area had also been going on.

WHEN?

The incident occurred on Tuesday, 24 January 2023.

WHERE?

Several people are feared trapped inside the debris of a multi-story building that collapsed in Lucknow's Wazir Hassan area.

Two JCB machines and a team from the state disaster relief force (SDRF) are at the spot to clear the debris and carry out the rescue operation.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the building collapse in the state capital. He immediately directed the officials to ensure that the injured are rushed to the hospital and receive proper treatment. He also asked several hospitals to stay on alert.

Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak reached the site.
