An image that has gone viral on social media showed one of the pilots holding a Gujiya, a special Holi sweet, and a beverage in a paper cup balanced on the centre console. Another Gujiya is kept near the cup.
A SpiceJet spokesperson was quoted by reports as saying that both pilots had been taken off the roster for an inquiry into whether they had endangered the flight.
"If the liquid (resting on the fuel cut-off levers) spills, it can short-circuit the electronics affecting a range of systems and compromise the aircraft's ability to fly safely," claimed one tweet.
